FAQ | What Is An Order Picker?

  • What is an order picker?

An order picker or orderpicker is defined as a person or a piece of equipment used to pick and deliver material needed for filling orders from storage.

Order pickers are used at elevations higher than the second level of racking in a warehouse or distribution center and can reach heights up to 390″ and will be used where pallet trucks, rolling ladders, and other piece-picking methods are traditionally used.

Order pickers are typically found in applications such as low-level orderpicking, high-level orderpicking, and very narrow aisle warehouses.
  • An order picker is an appropriate lift truck for any operation that deals with many SKUs and not a lot of quantity of any particular SKU number. The order picker is not suited for tasks such as: unit load picking, or right angle stacking, and transportation for long travel distances.

As order pickers are mostly operated at elevated heights, all operators are required to wear a harness while operating any order picker at any height and it is important that operators are properly trained on maneuvering of these trucks.
